colonist

In the past, colonists, or colonials, were people who came to invade another country in order to enlarge their own territory, to settle down and to make the most out of the natural resources. They chased away, killed or enslaved the tribal peoples who were there before them.

Today, colonists are people who settle in a territory, often because they have been chased from their own land or because they are attracted by gold, rare wood, oil, land to farm, etc.
